Pakistani journalist booked for linking ‘disrespectful’ statements about Islam to ex-PM Imran Khan – Situations of India


ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Police have registered a situation towards a journalist on allegations of attributing “disrespectful” statements “not centered on details” about Islam to former prime minister Imran Khan.
The scenario was registered at RA Bazar police station in Rawalpindi on Saturday against Waqar Satti on the complaint of a cable operator named Chaudhry Nasir Qayyum, the Dawn newspaper claimed.
In accordance to the 1st info report (FIR), the complainant alleged that Satti, in a tweet in opposition to the previous prime minister, “disrespected” Islam.
Qayyum said Satti attributed some statements to Imran which ended up “not based mostly on details”.
“Imran Khan has not talked about any these words and phrases […] talked about in Waqar Satti’s tweet – in any of his speeches,” the FIR quoted him as indicating. He additional that Satti’s steps had harm his spiritual sentiments, “as nicely as that of hundreds of other Muslims”.
The scenario from Satti was registered less than Sections 295-A (deliberate and malicious functions meant to outrage religious inner thoughts of any course by insulting its religion or religious beliefs) and 500 (punishment for defamation) of the Pakistan Penal Code.
As the news of Satti currently being booked was shared on social media, former minister and PTI chief Fawad Chaudhry explained the scenario was about “making use of faith for outrage”.
